You may already identify as a spiritual person—whether through religion or through practices that help you feel connected to something beyond yourself. Meditation, prayer, walking in the woods, playing with your baby, taking deep breaths—even shopping—can all bring you into that space and frequency. If you’re an empath or someone who feels the energy of a room, you already understand this concept: you sense something you cannot see.
Yet, like so many things in life, we often find it easier to embrace qualities in others than in ourselves. We are kinder, more accepting, and more forgiving toward others than we are toward ourselves. For those who are natural givers—those who pour into others but struggle to pour into themselves—spirituality may be easier to recognize in someone else rather than within.
But I’m here to call bullshit on that. You ARE already engaging with energy beyond yourself, whether you realize it or not.
But let's first ask: why does saying, “I’m spiritual,” trigger such strong reactions in people? Why the eye rolls, the dismissiveness, or the need to defend one’s own definition of it? Some think spirituality is nonsense. Others judge it as too religious. Some feel it’s not religious enough. Regardless, the term sparks reactions.
What I’ve learned from my work—whether in classes, one-on-one sessions, or groups—is that fear of the unknown breeds resistance. Judgment, anger, criticism—these are all responses rooted in fear. And when people fear what they don’t understand, they expect YOU to stop doing it so THEY feel more comfortable in their own skin. I see this all the time and have experienced it firsthand. And because I’m human, I’ve been guilty of it, too, especially when I was younger. But years of learning, practicing, and teaching have shown me just how much fear can dictate our reactions.
Recognizing our own limiting beliefs is a powerful thing. It’s not easy—especially when someone else calls us out on them (as I’m doing now, hopefully with some humor). But if we want to grow, we have to release whatever holds us back from accepting both ourselves and others.
So, for those reading who claim not to be spiritual…you are. And I’ll prove it!
Do you have Wi-Fi?
I recently saw a post that said:"It’s funny how people believe in Wi-Fi—these invisible waves powering everything—but think energy, frequency, and vibration are just mystical nonsense."
See what I mean?
If you trust that Wi-Fi works, you already believe in unseen energy. That cell phone in your hand? 5G? Frequency. That lamp plugged into your wall? Electricity—another invisible force we rely upon without question. And the buzz of energy some of us feel when standing barefoot on the earth? That’s source energy. We literally “plug in” when we ground ourselves, just as we plug in our appliances to power them.
So to the skeptics who claim not to be spiritual, who say they don’t believe in G-d, the Universe, or Source—ask yourself, Are you sure about that?
Why does this matter? Because I want people to consider that they are capable of being more multifaceted than they think they are. And so are the people around them.
To believe in what we cannot see is to have faith. We trust Wi-Fi will connect. We trust electricity will work. We rely upon these unseen forces to make life easier, more reliable, more connected. Source energy is no different. It takes faith to believe in it, but when we do, even just a little, we experience a deeper sense of ease and connection within ourselves and towards others.
If we pray, don’t we trust that we are being heard? There's big-P prayers, for health, safety, security and also the little-p prayers like praying your favorite team will win. No matter the reasons we send a prayer out into the ether, by doing so, aren't we relying on something outside of ourselves? Something greater, something invisible?
So the next time you hear someone say they’re a spiritual being, pause and remember: so are you! Even if your definition of spirituality is different from theirs, if we can all agree on some level that we believe in forces we cannot see, then hopefully we may feel more connected and plugged into each other as humans; divine beings having a human experience.
The fun part of all this and why I even bother creating these blogs? To hopefully help my readers ponder and consider ways they may see more in themselves or are ready to. If that sounds like you, THIS is part of the work I do in my business. I help individuals, organizations, corporations, any niche group understand themselves better. You’ve seen my tag lines by now: “When we understand how our wheels turn, we can drive the vehicle of our body anywhere,” and “You MATTER!”
Let me be your guide into yourself, and also into your business outside of yourself. All it takes is a conversation, which is free! From there, it takes some faith to believe in my ultimate tag line: "Trust me, I’ve got you!!!"
